I wanted to provide an update to our members and the public about our continuing club activities. Due to the ongoing Covid pandemic we are presently having our monthly meetings virtually. If you wish to join us and learn more about Ham Radio please send us an email to email@example.com and we would be more than happy provide you with the information to login. Our next meeting will be held on December 9th at 7:30 PM.
We have several upcoming events that are occurring with our club (please do not worry; we will be following proper safety protocols). These include an Antenna building party, Winter Field Day event (this has become an annual event for us and we are in the planning stages now), etc. Members; please look for more information via email and our member-only private chat server (Mattermost).
Additionally; as many in the Ham Radio Community may already know we had a very close member of ours recently pass away a few months ago and become a Silent Key (SK). Gary A. Smith (W8SDR) has been a member of OVEC for a while now and we are extremely saddened by his loss. He pioneered Digital Ham Radio communications in the Cincinnati area and was one of the first Hams to embrace the technology. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May he Rest in Peace and fly on waves of HF.
Having said this many of you may be wondering what has happened to the analogue repeater that he had on the UHF band (444.9750+ PL 162.2). Please do not worry; the repeater will remain on the air and OVEC will continue to manage/administer it (these are wishes of the family/Gary). We continue to be humbled by this and will do our best to honor Gary’s (and his family’s) memory.
Having said this I hope that everyone continues to stay safe and healthy during this difficult time.
